Dryopteris affinis, also known as the scaly male fern, golden-scaled male fern, or golden shield fern, is a large, evergreen fern that is native to western and southern Europe and southwestern Asia. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate a wide range of conditions, including moist shade, dry shade, and full sun. It has long, bipinnate fronds that can grow up to 1.2 meters in height. The fronds are bright yellow-green when young, later becoming rich green. The underside of the fronds is covered in dense, golden scales.
Height: 100cm x 80cm
Planting : When planting in the open ground it is best planted with a mixture of your garden soil and a good quality Tree and Shrub Compost. If planting in a container then we recommend John Innes No3 Compost or a good quality Multipurpose compost with added John Innes. These plants should be fed in Spring and late Summer with a good quality granular fertiliser.
