I joined Polhill Garden Centre at 16 years in the position of Cashier working on Sundays.
I was initially nervous and found the first few weeks daunting, but soon found my feet and loved the customer contact. I quickly progressed to working every weekend in the Garden Sundries Department advising our customers on all garden related products. It has been hard work to juggle work, studies and all my extra activities such as completing the gold Duke of Edinburgh and Hockey coaching.
When considering career options, my first thought was Agriculture. However, I have so enjoyed the business and the people and realising the considerable career options, I changed to Horticulture.
I was absolutely amazed and thrilled when the Managing Director said she was so impressed with my work ethic and commitment that she had decided to sponsor my Horticultural Degree at Hadlow that I started in September this year.
I am enjoying learning about the Industry at University and am very keen to put my knowledge to good use when advising customers how to make the most out of their gardens.
